Project: Build a Box
This project introduces students to prototyping with cheap, readily-available materials to plan for a final product. In this case, our challenge is to design a wood box with a lid that can open but also stay snugly closed.

STEP 1: The Paper Prototype
Where we practice setting specific improvement goals for each iteration.
STEP 2: The Foam Core Model
Where we begin digging deeper into the mechanical aspects of a good design and the importance of planning and accuracy.
Step 3: The final product
Students will navigate the jump from modeling to final materials, practicing proper clamping, sanding, and finishing procedures.
Project: Earthquake-proof architecture
This project introduces students to design parameters. These past few years have been rife with natural disasters, including earthquakes and hurricanes. Students will consider what goes into planning a building, including structural, environmental, and financial and material considerations.
